Please Use the Handrails

Sometimes it becomes important to understand that what is right and real and true - is not what you’d like it to be. Resistance to new ideas, new ways of thinking, new ways of communicating, new ways of receiving can all be challenges that must simply be…overcome. Sometimes the universe just doesn’t give you a lot of options about it.

The Answer is “42.” The Question is “How Does the Rubber Band Fit In the Catapult?”

If you are a fan of Douglas Adams 1992 sci-fi/humor book and series “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” you’ll know that “The answer to life, the universe and everything” is 42. Of course, if 42 is the answer it becomes rather obvious that we don’t really understand the question in the first place. The search for the question is the premise of his series. The Most Powerful Word - NO!

In our society the default answer to nearly every question is “Yes.” Advertising is all geared towards getting us to say “Yes - I need that.” We phrase our inquiries looking for yes: “Would you like more coffee?” “Would you be interested in joining me for dinner?” “Would you help me move next week?” Continue Reading »

Repairing the Rift, Evolving the Relationship: Father & Son

Father’s and son’s - it’s almost the epitome of difficult relationships in our society. Either they get along great and have a deep connection, they get along ok but the connection is shallow and superficial, or they barely speak. Continue Reading »

What can you say “Yes!” to?

I recently made a commitment to a 21-day community phone-based meditation. I was a little concerned about making this commitment as the call was at 7am - a bit early for me. But I was excited about the meditation I’d experienced and was looking forward to joining the meditation community that was being created.
