NEWSMATTERS - MAD McCain Disease???
These are VERY scary times we’re living in. I know, I know, not the first time I’ve uttered such banalities here or there, but whatchagonnado?… I was still a child when I went to my parents and asked: “Why is everyone so stupid?” And that question has repeated and repeated and repeated throughout the years and decades.
Has McCain ever looked so incredibly nauseating as he appears now? So friggin’ sanctimonious, all the “Country First” bullcrap and posturing and darting to and fro with political stagecraft. Palin. Really, which is more scary, McCain being elected or Palin assuming the presidency? Now the economic crisis. McCain “suspending” his campaign and begging off the debate “for the good of the country.”
Tonight, breaking news, Washington Mutual seized by FDIC and bought out by Chase. Biggest bank failure “in the world” they say.
Here is Obama, on the other hand. Smart, measured, calm, sensible, thoughtful. A friend tells me yesterday she’s out to dinner with her mother-in-law, who leans over the table with a rueful gaze and whispers with suspicion that “he [Obama] looks like the Antichrist.” Whaaaat????
For the last eight years, we have had a President in Bush that was “at the wheel” when NYC was attacked on 9/11. Then, he and cronies twist and torture the truth and invade Iraq, the worst foreign policy debacle I can recall in my lifetime, not to mention the thousands of Americans killed and injured and the hundreds of thousands of Iraquis killed, injured, made homeless. The billions squandered. Eight more years of a government of, by and for the rich. Right-wing jurists off to the Supreme Court. The unabashed, sychophantically lame appointment of Alberto Gonzalez to the AG slot. Like a 3rd world country, I swear. The shame of Katrina, Brownie cronyism and absence of empathy toward a ”non-white” City, and years later New Orleans still limps along. Last night, weeks into “the crisis” Bush appears on prime time network TV outlets with a damn scarey sky-is-falling lament, looking for all the world like an extra in “Night of the Living Dead”.
And - for all that - the polling distance between Obama and McCain is still within the margin of error, less than 40 days before the Election.
Sometimes politics can be too dangerous for a political junkie. I feel like a heroin addict that just got a dirty shot, and I’m not sure if I can come out of this one.
If I were a religious man, I’d say “God help us.”
