McMenamins Buys Old Silverado/Club Portland Building
Though the dance-happy queens from the “old Silverado” or doped-up dudes lounging in their birthday suits have only been gone from the building less than a year, Portland powerhouse pub factory McMenamins announced today it has purchased the old Silverado/Club Portland complex location at the corner of SW 12th and Stark Street, a longtime infamous corner of Portland’s fast-gentrifying “gay district,” Southwest Stark Street, and plans to open an as-yet-unnamed hotel and restaurant in the renovated building as early as winter of 2009.
According to McMenamins, Gerding Edlen Development has already begun renovation on the building, which will house a hotel and full-service downtown McMenamins brewpub/restaurant.
“Having a full downtown property with all of our offerings in one area has been something we’ve thought about for a long time now,” said Renee Rank, McMenamins marketing director, in a statement released this afternoon. “This project is the perfect complement to our adjacent Ringlers Annex Pub and the Crystal Ballroom, and will be a great connection between the Pearl District and the West End.”
