NEWSMATTERS - Waiting for Another Shoe to Drop…

So Ed Rollins, that venerable Republican strategist, says tonight that “it’s over” and “McCain’s lost”.  Hmm…  That kind of confidence I don’t have, despite the recent polls.  Twenty-six days in politics, especially in this election, is how many lifetimes?…

Granted, for a host of reasons I seem to be in a worried stage of life right now, but I do feel an ongoing sense of worry.  McCain, and especially Palin, are whipping up their crowds, filled with visceral, visible rage, anger, frustration.  Several news sources have reported folks in their crowds, in response to their incitements re. Ayers, Rev. Wright, the “who is the real Obama?” taunting questions, have shouted out:  “off with his head”; “kill him”; “treason”; “traitor”; not to mention the incident several days ago where several members in the crowd started to hurl obscene and racist epithets at an African American reporter in the midst.  Whew!  All this demagoguery and rage and where will it all end?

Concurrently, every day another Continent seems to implode with the “economic crisis” and the constant, clenched murmuring of “another Great Depression” and papers and radio and blogs shout “it’s crashing!” as the stock market falls another, what, 570 points today was it? 750?  Who remembers anymore?

And for a Realtor who looks around and sees most of his clients and would-be clients frozen in place with fear and caution, I can’t help but wonder “what will become of me?”.  Selfish, okay, but I gotta live too, right? Last week a closing with an incredibly happy first-time buyer, and today another signing at escrow for another closing tomorrow.  Count my blessings I guess.

It’s a strange time, indeed, and a dark time, unfortunately.  I want to be exhilerated and thrilled that Obama seems poised for a victory, but the “thrill” alludes me for the time being.  Instead, there’s this quiet concern, a “calm before the storm” kind of feeling.  Hmm…..

If I were a drinking man, I’d clink my proverbial glass against yours right now, and toast “To better days!”
