Yeah, I understand... one of the grey shadings I never got around to in this post. And I understand that some --not all, mind you, but some--of Edwards workers/aides, and surely like myself, some (or many) of his supporters, were "disappointed" (the most often quoted term) or angered or saddened by the fact that he lied to them. I recall Joe Trippi was one that I saw/heard that essentially denied even that, and was just gracious and generous and basically just bestowing good thoughts and wishes to the Edwardses. Going back to the Clinton/impeachment debacle, though, as in this respect a similar comparison, I think it is a fair summation to say "People always lie about sex." Really, if someone's "cheating" on his or her partner, it's the rare bird indeed that fesses up clearly and completely in a timely manner. Goes with the package of infidelity. Not saintly, perhaps, but there you go. I would add that in the crazy-papparazzi world of SEX AND POLITICS, you're really going to feel your back up against the wall if and when the reporters start pushing cameras and microphones in your face and shout out questions about your possible dalliances. So I'll say AGAIN, no, I'm not "defending" the actions (i.e., the lying), but I do think it's understandable and fundamentally part of the "package" that I really do feel is none of my business. :-) Thanks though for your thoughtful comment; I appreciate the feedback.

I remember being bothered more that Bill Clinton lied to us ("I did not have sexual relations with that woman") than the fact that he had sex with a woman in the anteroom of the Oval Office. It's the lies and the cover up that tell more about a person than the actual error in behavior.

Hey Zach,

This is a very touchy subject, and for the most part, I agree with you. The reason people are so angry/hurt by this is that a lot of people went out on the line to defend him. For weeks they were on TV saying that they know there is no way it could be true. He even told them it wasn't true. That is why people are so hurt. He also made it an essential part of his campaign, his family values, which is why people are coming down hard on him. I agree, though, that they should leave it alone. But, that is not really possible when a network has 24 hours of coverage it has to fill. Like going to breaking news of Brett Favre arriving in NJ...I mean, come on!

Anyways, hope you have a good one,
