Shut up and get over the fact that the entire place is one giant rainbow. You're gonna drink your cheap, strong drink and get out on the huge dance floor and you're gonna like it!

Ever since the Panorama closed for me Embers has taken the mantle of best place in Portland to dance. Yes there is an interesting crowd that includes some gay, bi, trans and cross dressers but don't get your panties or tiddy-whities in a wad. Just come here and dance to some great music that has different themes each day of the week. There is plenty of room to dance and you may even find a willing partner to not only bump with but maybe even grind with too.

Here, you get two clubs for one cover charge. On the dance club side, rainbow flags fly high. DJs swimming in neon lights spin '80s, Top 40 and techno booty-shaking beats, while young hipsters crowd the dance floor. If the club's dance energy isn't up to snuff, head next door for one of Embers' famous drag shows where you'll see Dolly Parton and Madonna like you've never experienced.

A few blocks west on Broadway, this place turns into two bars in one during evenings. The front bar, Embers, is a place for both amateur and somewhat more professional drag shows and a starting ground for many drag queens today. In the back, The Avenue features a large dance floor and pounding dance music.

The Embers Avenue is popular with all walks of life, young and old, gay and straight, almost everybody goes out to Embers once in a while. While the shows and the dance floor are only going at night, the front bar is open all day every day. There's a $5 cover charge at the door after 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Make sure you have cash on hand, or your ATM card, because neither bar accepts credit cards.
