Zach Newman, RE/MAX Equity Group
I’ve been a “different kind of realtor” since trading in my counseling license to become a full-time real estate broker since 1995.
Very long-term member of PABA and “out” forever, helping our community one way or another. In a business as stressful as buying or selling a home - but definitely not life or death - you gotta have a sense of humor. Would I be “Zippy the Pinhead’s Favorite Realtor” without the ability to laugh and help my clients ride the waves? I do take the business of helping my clients very seriously, though, and that’s where the difference comes in. Treating clients truly like family and friends, and looking out for their long-term satisfaction, rather than the quick paycheck. That’s what I’m most proud of, and my clients love me for it. Feel free to check out my website for recent testimonials and other interesting articles. The fact that I’m the recipient of many awards and a consistent, successful Million Dollar Club member is just gravy.
Speaking of which: you may see the occasional gravy stain on my Levi’s shirt. And I’ll drive up in my old Volvo, not a shiny BMW. And more often than not, I’ll advise you NOT to buy that house, “we can do better…have you noticed these problems?” Some more of my ‘differences’.
I especially like working with first-time buyers, helping to get them into that little slice o’ American Pie. Or Seniors scaling down. Or two guys or gals who fall in love and want to sell their separate places and buy their new together-dream home. Ahhh, basically helping nice folks is where I get my jollies. Never pressured, never hard-sell, always ready to listen and help find solutions to what you think may be problems, working as a team to a successful outcome.
I’d love to hear from you, meet up for coffee (one of my few vices), or at our new cool offices in convenient Lloyd Center/Rose Quarter area. Specialize in “close-in” areas, esp. Eastside, with sometimes forays to the Pearl, downtown, close-in westside.

As somebody who has had real estate dealings with Zach, I can tell you that he’s not lying when he says he’s different. He really DOES talk people out of buying a place that he thinks is a bad deal, and he has enough integrity to steer a seller in the right direction in terms of pricing and “what needs fixed” about a property. I can wholeheartedly endorse this guy.
OK, Zach, when do I get the pizza?
Zach puts buyers and sellers together and everyone wins! That’s why they call him the “Z-Man”!!
We had the great fortune of having Zach recommended to us when we moved to Portland in 2004. We were living 2400 miles away at the time and he was very nice in responding to my wife’s many e-mail and phone requests. When we actually arrived in Portland for a one week extravaganza of house hunting he was very prepared and ready to go. Over the course of our first day I felt that he got a great sense of what we wanted in a house. By the 3rd day there we had the house we wanted. Of course, with Zach the service and friendship doesn’t stop there. He helped us with many recommendations and gave us peace of mind as we dealt with all the house closing stuff from cross country.
When it came time to sell our house in 2007 and move cross country again we assumed that Zach would be our guy. He was just as excellent on the selling side and we got a great offer and smooth sale.
We’ve moved again just recently and had a nice experience with our realtor. But, it seems impossible for us to find someone who measures up to everything Zach provides. He listens so well to what we have to say and understands (I think) how we function as a couple during those stressful times. He has the best personal touch in a genuine way. Our best experiences with home buying and selling have been with Zach. Although we haven’t seen him in a good year we do our best to stay in touch and are willing to laud him at any opportunity.
Zach is one of those rare realtors who really puts the client first, not the sale. He pays attention to every detail, researches anything he doesn’t already know, and gives you the best options for your particular needs. He clearly demonstrates his caring about you and what’s best for you every step of the way. I met Zach after I had already moved to Portland and had brought property, but he did a great job helping me sell one place. I’ve also recommended him to friends who have used his services to buy homes. Highly recommend Zach.
I have had the pleasure of working with Zach for the past eight years, and I must say that I have consistantly been impressed with his knowledge, his professionalism and his devotion to giving his clients, whether they are selling or buying, the highest level of service. He is truly one of the most ethical and caring people I have ever known.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Zach if you need a realtor. He was amazing when I was ready to sell my home in Portland. I was a student at Gozaga University and was living in Spokane. I wanted to sell my place in Portland, and I hoped I could do that while living in Spokane. Zach was AMAZING. He went way above and beyond the call of duty. After the buyer had put in an offer with contingencies, he called and arranged for contractors to come to the house and bid the jobs. He arranged for them to come and complete the jobs that needed to be done. He went out to the house and made sure the contractors completed the jobs well and on-time. He was fabulous. I didn’t have to worry about a thing. And all of this was done while I was 8 hours away in another state. Zach protected my interests throughout the whole process. The only thing I had to do was sign the documents to sell the property. You won’t go wrong with Zach on your side.
My first home-buying experience was through Zach Newman, and we have remained friends ever since then.
Zach is an excellent realtor, a true professional at his job. His education and previous employment gives him some very valuable skills including the art of listening, and he truly is a great, “listener.”
During our house hunting phase, Zach took both of us around to look. There were times when I was out of town, and Zach and my partner would go out house hunting. Other times Zach and I went out looking.
Zach got to know each of us pretty well, our likes and dislikes of a house. He and I would go looking and when I liked a house, he would say, “well your partner would not like this aspect.” He would be right, and we would continue our search.
When we did find a house to buy, Zach explained all of the paperwork to us. He put us in touch with a good mortgage broker, and soon thereafter my partner and I owned a beautiful home together.
Home buying can be a very stressful and anxious time, and there is no one better than Zach to help guide you through that process. He is a great listener and possesses a calmative effect about him, allowing the prospective buyer to reduce their anxieties and stay on track towards their goal of buying a house.
I highly recommend Zach as a realtor, and know him to be a true professional in his field of expertise.
In April of 2000, my landlord informed me she was selling my house and I had until June 1 to move. As a garden center manager, I was entering my busiest season at work, so I was STRESSED!I called Zach, and said “what do I do?” I’d never really contemplated buying a house, but he showed me it would be easier than I thought. He showed infinite patience helping me find the right house, set me up with a finance guy, handled the home inspection, septic tank report, and made everything work. What could have been a disaster turned out to be almost a cake walk thanks to Zman. Look, there’s a lot of shysters and phonies out there. Zach is the real thing, someone you can trust and someone who will work hard, always with your interests first. You can’t find anyone better.
I highly recommend Zach Newman for all your real estate needs. We have been considering selling our home that we have lived in for eleven years. He is very honest, thorough and patient with us going through the process of determining when and what we have to do and what we don’t have to do to get the most out of our sale. Zach is very reliable, keeps up informed with the most current information and really wants us both to be comfortable selling our home before we put it up for sale. If you want someone to listen, add their valuable input but not push you into something you don’t want, Zach Newman is the realter for you. He is a true professional.
I have been a mortgage banker for 20 years. I have worked with countless Realtors in the Portland area. One that stands out is Zach Newman. Zach makes your transaction his priority! In many home purchases I feel the need to pick up all the pieces to move the deal forward. When Zach is involved, he is the one setting the pace and is very detail oriented. When choosing a Realtor with experience that will put your needs first, I would not hesitate to recommend Zach Newman.
I read Zach’s own blurb and I’m not sure that he completely hung up his counseling hat when he became a real estate broker. Zach is a real professional who is able to inform, guide, calm the waters, bring people together and make a deal happen. An experienced sense of the real estate market, understanding of his client’s needs and extraordinary people skills make him a terrific broker. He has my highest recommendation.
I was faced with quite a conundrum recently when an old friend was considering moving to Portland from Los Angeles. The friend is a high maintenance and tough Diva client who expects everything for nothing. She has devoured many a sales person.
I knew several realtors as friends and professionals and who was I going to recommendto work with this ClientZilla?
It came down to Zach being the extremely competent and proficient specialist to get the job done.
He handled her with care, graciousness and respect. Where others would have pulled their hair out, he was calm and cool, answering her myriad of inquiries with courtesy and turning her negativity into positive vitality.
My hat is off to Zach Newman.
Can you imagine that even after Zach has put up with me and my wife selling the house. Then not selling. Then again selling. Wait! Never mind. But. OK. No. Yes.
You get the idea. Poor Zach. Some day we WILL sell and he WILL make some money for all his efforts. And I do mean efforts. I would be embarrassed to say how many times he has looked at the house and offered to help with ideas for what to fix or improve - things NOT to bother with (and save the money) and he has even offered to accompany us to go choose colors and buy paint.
All that for a cup of coffee. (Did I mention he’s a cheap date?)
Don’t play “Can You Top This?” with him. You are destined to lose. Zach Newman truly does go way above and beyond what any reasonable person (which I certainly am far from) would expect from a realtor and surely can satisfy those of you who, like me, are rarely satisfied with anything!
Oh, and he DOES vote.
Zach is the sincerest, nicest, most pleasant realtor to work with who genuinely cares about his clients and their best interest. He left nothing unturned when I was in the process of purchasing my first home and was an excellent advocate for me. We’ve remained friends over the years.
Zach came highly recommended by a friend when I was looking for a broker to buy my first home — I went with Zach and I am very happy I did. Zach made the home buying process accessible and made my feel comfortable. I got a great home working with Zach.
I have also bought four rental properties with Zach and he has helped me work through 1031 exchanges when trading up from one rental to the next.
I have recommended Zach to all of my friends who are looking to buy or sell a home and I count eight friends who have decided to work with Zach — all of them with great success and satisfaction.
