Manhunt.net co-owner contributes personal maximum to John McCain

Manhunt.net co-owners Larry and JonathanOUT magazine reported that Manhunt.net co-owner Jonathan Crutchley has donated the personal maximum of $2300 to Republican John McCain’s presidential campaign. Crutchley and co-owner Larry Basile bought Manhunt for $800,000 and now make about $2.4 million per month on the membership site designed to help men hook up with men.

Crutchley claims that McCain will be a better Commander-in-Chief than Democrat Barack Obama and he notes that Obama “also opposes gay marriage.”

Towleroad.com picked up the article and was immediately inundated with comments. Most of the commenters announced the cancellation of their accounts. Here are some of the more humorous or informative comments.

Well, if McCain wins it will be with the help of millions of gay men jerking off.

Men seeking men for anonymous internet hook-ups? What could be more Republican than that?

More reason for online gays to support planetout aka gay.com(since they are having such tough times).

How’s this for evil?: you can’t delete your manhunt account. That’s right, fellas. It’s impossible to permanently delete the account. You can only downgrade it to a non-paying, ‘limited account’. So they still get to tell their advertisers “We have XX million accounts.” Manipulative fucking assholes. Surely there is a class action lawsuit in this?

Hurrah! Now, playing the tart on Manhunt can be a way to express your lack of self-respect in two ways simultaneously! The internet age makes everything so efficient.

It just goes to show that greedy hypocrisy transcends sexual orientation.

This is buried deep, deep, DEEP within Manhunt’s “help” area:

“You can request the individual information that OLB has collected about you, correct factual inaccuracies in your information, remove personal information from OLB’s databases and/or update your personal information here or by contacting support@manhunt.net. Please note however, that we reserve the right to send you administrative messages relating to the Site, including messages about changes to this Privacy Policy. If at any time you would like us to deactivate your member profile and remove it from public and member viewing on the Site, please e-mail us at support@manhunt.net. Please note that we will retain your personal information in back-up storage after deactivation and we are not responsible for removing information about you from the database of any third parties to whom you previously authorized us to share your personal information.”

So, you *can* have your account deleted altogether — when they get around to it — but they get to keep your personal info.

Lovely.

I admit it: I’m a Manhunt member so I can get screwed. I didn’t expect to get screwed over.

This sort of tawdry disclosure just plain ruins a lot of otherwise wholesome orgasms…

I checked out some of the other comments on the Towleroad article and found many either defending Mr. Crutchley or dismissing his contribution to McCain as meaningless. One even argued that as long as one Manhunt.net employee donates the maximum to Obama, it will cancel out Mr. Crutchley’s stupidity.

Kind of missing the point. Our votes with money mean far more than our traditional votes. We must do more to cancel out Mr. Crutchley’s stupidity than just give to Obama. We need to stop giving money to Manhunt.
